Do Bible translations have copyrights?
Updated on October 10, 2026
Every Bible translation is made by a team of people and, in most cases, belongs to a publisher. Because of this, Biblup only uses versions that legally allow us to use them to teach you.
- Public Domain: The English version (WEB) and the Spanish version (Reina-Valera 1909) are in the public domain. This means they no longer have a copyright owner and anyone can freely read, use, and share them anywhere in the world.
- Creative Commons (CC BY): The Portuguese version (Bíblia Livre) has an open license. The creators let anyone use the text, as long as proper credit is given.
On Biblup, on the screen for each chapter, we show the translation's name, the license, and the link to the creators' official page, to be transparent about the origin of each text.
