How do hearts (lives) work?

Updated on October 10, 2026

Hearts represent your chances to make mistakes on Biblup. However, they are used in a very specific way: you only need hearts when you take a test.

When do you lose a heart?

You only lose a heart when you get an answer wrong in a Test-out (the test to skip a unit) or in the Level test.

You never lose hearts for making mistakes in regular lessons about a new story or on the review screen. Learning new stories and practicing your daily vocabulary is completely free of penalties!

How to recover hearts

If you lose a heart during a test, it will recover on its own over time: 1 heart every 30 minutes.
